Mysticism
Just like the Islamic divine laws Mysticism consists of two things i.e. knowledge and action or practice. The only difference is that in the Divine laws knowledge comes first and practice follows it; and in mysticism first you practice and then you gain knowledge. In the divine laws traditions are explained and in the mysticism things are revealed before having knowledge about it. Sometime things are known without any struggle; it is then not clear how and when things came in to their knowledge; in mysticism it is called revelation (premonition), the power of premonition comes with the purification of mind. One needs instruction and education from a spiritual guide (a mentor); a man should not have worldly desires, only love of God should reside in the heart and celibacy should be practiced. So that he should not commit any sin, hence is entitled to be called a Sufi (a mystic). Sufi is derived from the word Sifa. A person who has purity of heart, has high standard justice is a Sufi. A person then can be called a Sufi who fulfills rights of both God and human beings. A true Sufi is the one who follows all the rules set by the divine laws and not the one whom we find wearing colourful beads and patched clothes. It is not necessary that a Sufi should live without the necessities of life but in fact does not have desire for worldly luxuries and also be prepared to hide his identity and be pure and chaste.
The aim of mystic is to give knowledge of God to the ones who struggles to be near to God. He will only aspire for this only when he will know the importance of having God as companion.
“ Ar Rafiqo Summa al Tareeqo “
It is necessary to obtain knowledge about God through a hermit. A man can only become pious in his actions after acquiring the intimate knowledge of God. His sound (firm) character will raise his ranks in courts of God. It is obvious any one who wants to reach God without the intimate knowledge will loose himself in heresy and oblivious. God said about heathens.
“Wama Qadro wa Allah. Haq un Qadrihi”
Translation “They estimated wrong about God that is why they have fallen in the heathenism.”
God cannot be understood just by mere calculation, nothing can be gained out of it. A man cannot understand about most of the things God has created. Then how could it be possible to understand God. Can a man tell what was there first a seed or its tree? If a seed was there first then where did the tree come from? If the tree was there; then where did it come from? The Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him)said:
“Siaqoon-un fi Umati Rijal un Muhadisoonun”
Translation “The teacher of the intimate knowledge of God will be the Mystic and through him God can be approached.”
The Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) said:
“Laou Araftam-Ullah Haq-u-Maraftini Lamasheetum-ne-Alalbihori-un wa lazaltu Bida tikum-ul-Jibal”
Meaning: If you had acquired the knowledge of God, the way it was supposed to be learnt, then you could have walked on the oceans and world could have been different place just by praying. That is how a pious man is dear to God, so no one can disobey him.
As the Persian poet Saadi said:
“Tu Gadan Uz Hukam Dawar Maitch Na Paichad Gardan-za Hukam Tu Haitch”
If a man had been capable of to become dear to God than neither a scientist nor a philosopher could have denied the presence of God and never would have question the ways of life of the Prophets. Knowledge and intelligence is useless without God’s knowledge. A human can never be near to God because of radicalism or intelligence. A mystic does not quit doing worldly things but refrains from committing sin. The mysticism that teaches to give up world and struggle for life leads you to a wrong path. Mysticism is teaches what teaches to be pure of heart, to be chaste, be brave and strong is the school of thought of the mystics.
The requisite for mysticism is to have love of God but not of the worldly goods. The heart should be elucidated only by the lights of Islam, the hearts should only beat for Allah only. A place becomes a residence of God when it is free of atheism. The pious people are always lost in sublimity of God, whatever world they say is only the invocation of God’s name and they are quiet, but their face illuminates with the purity of heart.
Their bodies speak the language of saintliness, they are more near to God although they are not god themselves. The hearts that are filled with the love of God reveals the qualities of God.
As Hazrat Umer Farooq (Raziullah-o-Tahala Anho) said:
”Ra-ie Qalbi Rabi”
Meaning: “My heart has seen God”
Hazrat Ali (Karamullah Wajhul Karim) said
“La Abdur Balam Arah”
Meaning: “I do not worship the God that I have not seen”
There is no doubt that God always is near to those who are pure of heart, you only have an eyes for that.
The Holy Quran says:
“Wala-Hum Aieyunu, La Yubsiroon”
Meaning “You’ve got eyes but not the vision of depth”
Quotation: “The heart has eyes that the brain knows nothing of.”
The purity of the heart of mystic can be explained by an example: If we place a bowl, full of water in the open air, we will see sun in all the bowls, so in the same manner if our heart is free of all kinds of hatreds and sins, for sure then love of God is always in the heart, as Allama Iqbal says:
“Haath hay Allah ka Bandah-e-Momin ka hath Ghalib wa Kar Afreen Kar Kusha wa Karsar”
We cannot estimate the extents of their (mystics) powers.
